5 Design Mistakes That Make Websites Feel Cheap
Design

You've probably visited a website and immediately felt that something was off. You couldn't quite explain why, but the experience didn't inspire confidence. Interestingly, most websites don't feel cheap because of bad branding or poor visuals. They feel cheap because of dozens of small decisions that weaken the overall experience. In my work as a product designer, I've reviewed countless websites across different industries. Again and again, I see the same mistakes: inconsistent spacing, weak typography, poor image selection, confusing layouts, and excessive visual clutter. The challenge is that these issues often seem minor in isolation. A slightly misaligned section here. An oversized button there. A low-quality image somewhere else. Individually they're easy to overlook, but together they create a website that feels unpolished and untrustworthy. The good news is that fixing these mistakes doesn't require a complete redesign. Often, small improvements in structure, hierarchy, and visual consistency can dramatically elevate how a website is perceived. Let's look at five of the most common design mistakes and what you can do instead.
